Body: When searching for a surgeon to perform my Lap Band surgery I researched multiple doctors and facilities. What was most important to me was a surgeon who has operated many times with high volume, fellowship trained, and at a facility that is capable of handling all complications. In my search I found Dr Mark Mahbod Paya, fellowship trained at University of California Irvine. Dr. Paya surpassed all my requirements and more. He is compassionate, patient and most of all an excellent Los Angeles weight loss surgeon. The office was able to expedite my surgery and from the time he saw me till the time I was approved through my insurance was less than a month. He also provides his patients with excellent bed side manner. When ever I had a question he would call me personally, regardless of the time of day.
The facility that he operates at also is designated as a Center of Excellence. Unlike any other Los Angeles Weight Loss Center, West Hills Hospital is accredited by American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as one of the few centers in California and the United States that is recognized for optimal levels of performance. The only other Centers of Excellence near West Hills is Cedars Sinai Medical Center and the University of California Irvine. Therefore, I was sure that I was in good hands.
Lastly, my care both pre and post operatively was managed professionally, efficiently and with personal care. The staff and his team are all excellent. His psychiatrist, nutritionist and office staff made me feel like I was their only patients, (although I know that he has a very busy practice.) Dr. Paya also operated on my friend. He performed a sleeve gastrectomy which is a newer procedure that very few physicians are trained to perform. My friend is doing very well and has lost over 100 lbs. I have lost 75 lbs in less than 6 months and continue to lose weight.

Dr. Paya has performed hundreds of laparoscopic operations. His expertise is to perform laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic gastric banding for those struggling with obesity.
